Out of Character Rules
- This forum, despite Pokemon being a kid-oriented franchise, is rated PG-13-ish. By all means, violence, vulgarity, and romance is permitted as far as Proboards allows. Pokemon Opal takes a more realistic perspective on Pokemon - i.e. both Pokemon and humans can bleed and/or die(though killing is not to happen without a player's permission and my approval).
- Respect other members and the rules. Pretty basic. Don't bash or spew slander unless in jest, and even then if someone seems sincerely hurt about what you've said, for goodness sake apologize and let's try not to hold grudges.
- No super enormous images, in your signature, character application, or any of your posts.
In Character Rules
- Pokemon Opal is an intermediate level forum. IC posts must be at least 100 words. I'll probably forgive you for less if I see the situation is really slow and/or you weren't given a lot to do, but try not to make it a habit. Grammar/spelling to the best of your ability is strongly encouraged.
- One character per account. You can have as many characters as you can keep active, so as exciting and inspiring as this forum might be, don't overwhelm yourself. <3
- Your icon and signature should reflect your character, and at least one of the two should include an image of your character.
- No God-Moding. Also a pretty basic and well-established roleplay rule. This includes impossibly powerful characters, controlling other characters without permission, and killing other characters without permission. Rather than posting:
Ree aimed and shot Tyler in the shoulder.
Go with something like:
Ree shot, aiming for Tyler's shoulder.
That way it's left up to Tyler if he wants to be shot or not. This is known as an auto-hit if Ree were to claim she shot Tyler. Auto-hitting is bad. However, if Ree keeps shooting, it's likely Tyler would get hit at some point. If he keeps refusing to get shot, that'd be God-Moding on his part.
- Any OOC chatting in an IC thread should be made separate with (parenthesis), [brackets], or something similar that floats your boat. Every instance of OOC in an IC thread should be accompanied by a post; but if you're having a full conversation, please take it to PM.
- Roleplay here follows a relatively liquid timeline, meaning characters and posting are not required to be in a consistent timeline/location. You can post with the same character whenever and wherever you like, though major recent events should be taken into account.
- When posting an IC thread, be sure to include either an [Open] after its title or a [Name(s)] if it's a closed roleplay between you and someone else.
- Try not to be offended if you don't like someone's character or if they don't like yours, or if your characters don't get along. Roleplay is for fun, everyone has their own tastes, and IC =/= OOC!
Battling at Pokemon Opal
- There are no levels or stats, so to speak. Pokemon have varying life spans and how long they've lived and how long they've been trained by a trainer(and who) reflects in their power and abilities. A wild Pokemon's catch rate can generally go to show how powerful they are.
- As mentioned in the Character Rules, Pokemon can know more than four moves. All their moves are at their disposal, though they still have to learn each of them through age and training, and a wild Pokemon isn't going to know TMs.
- The battling 'system' is simpler than a system; battling is written as normal roleplay following our posting requirements. Be very careful not to God-Mode in this aspect and follow the guidelines regarding how to avoid God-Moding.
- This also means there are no particular move turns. You can have a Pokemon use more than one move in your post and strategically combine moves - but of course, keep it reasonable and again stick to the guidelines regarding how to avoid God-Moding.
- I'm trusting you guys to battle maturely and resolve between each other who wins and loses. You're not going to win them all, and I guess if you want to lose them all that's up to you. C:
- When you lose, you do forfeit a little money to the winner depending on the skill level of the battle. There will be no system for money, but keep in mind if your character is losing a lot they're going to be scrounging for food more often and might not have the money to stay at a PokeCenter every night. Likewise, if your character is winning a lot they can probably afford to spoil their Pokemon with TMs, berries, vitamins, and whathaveyou, not to mention themselves with new clothes or something. However, if your character has a job that makes them money outside of battling, unless they're battling and losing a ton they shouldnt be too poor.
Naturally, rules are subject to updating. Thank you for reading! <3
